Join 100+ CBOs making a difference in California’s prison system. Any Community-Based Organization offering restorative and transformative programs to people incarcerated in California state prisons is eligible to join us. As we know from our years of work together, we’re stronger and smarter together. Our previous wins and current goals were all born from the needs and voices of our members. We are committed to fighting for you, and lifting up the voices of those who are system impacted. Let’s put our heads and our hearts together to plan for precise, collective impact, and have some fun while we’re at it!
Some of our recent victories include:
Creating the CARE Grants within CDCR which started in 2019 and has distributed over $XX to date.
Creating the RIGHT Grants within CDCR which started in 2021 and have distributed over $40 million to date.
AB1104: Changing legislation so the punitive goal of sentencing is achieved through loss of liberty and that the goal of incarceration should be rehabilitation, making program accessible to all people living in CA state prisons.
Changing legislation to say that program providers are not just volunteers, we are
AB581: Changing legislation to standardize and streamline the clearance process for all program providers, particularly those who are formerly incarcerated, statewide.

Collective Advocacy
We advocate on behalf of members with CDCR, state legislature, and budget advocacy. We know it can be hard to square off with the CDCR leadership or any of the prisons when they hold the key to both your funding and your ability to offer your programs. We take on the tough conversations so you don’t have to. We’ve spent years developing relationships with key staff who respect our goals and are working with us to meet your needs. The TPW works hard to provide value for our members. Between advocacy, training, fundraising, and more - our mission to support CBOs providing transformative and restorative programs to people in CA state prisons requires a lot of expertise, relationship building, and people power. Contritions from our members help ensure we can keep the fight alive.
We recognize that we operate within current systems and structures that perpetuate and create scarcity. This is one of the reasons why we’ve built the TPW - to break down isolation and competition and unite us towards our goal of bringing healing into prisons. We acknowledge that while we work to shift culture and policy, we too must operate under these systems and need to maintain financial stability in order to do this work. We have a suggested contribution based on a sliding scale of your organizational budget, through either a recurring annual payment or monthly payment plan.
-Under $50,000 Budget: $60/annually or $5/month
-$51,000 - $150,000: $300/annually or $25/month
-$151,000 - $250,000: $60/annually or $50/month
-$251,000 - $500,000: $900/annually or $75/month
-$501,000 - $999,999: $1,200/annually or $100/month
-Over $1 Million: $1,800/annually or $150/month
*This may be your organization’s annual budget or a departmental budget allocated for in-prison programming. We leave it up to your organization’s discretion to choose.

We exist to advocate for and build capacity for our member organizations. As such, you can engage as much as is useful to you. We identify our advocacy strategies/goals, forum topics, and capacity building based on what we hear from our members. So, help us help you by participating! That said, we know many of our members are short staffed and underfunded but doing amazing work and you can’t always participate. So we all do the best we can with the time we have.
We have a monthly virtual membership meeting, a member email group, a private member web portal, periodic Zoom forums/trainings, and occasional in-person gatherings. You can choose to get the info/notices to your email, or you can choose to check the web portal at your convenience.
