August Membership Meeting Recap
We often hear from our members and community members a desire to more intentionally support participants with immigration concerns. So, we recently co-hosted an info session with the Asian Prisoner Support Committee (APSC) to equip members with the tools to better support participants facing these challenges.
Our presenters, Anoop Prasad and Peejay Ai, offered insights into the complexities surrounding immigration issues in the reentry process. We thank them for providing TPW members with resources to assist participants in navigating ICE holds, preparing for board hearings, and understanding the transition to ICE detention. They also shared practical suggestions for program providers on how to support participants even if they are detained by ICE- mainly: if you can stay in contact to offer connection and encouragement, do so! Also, provide a letter of support that speaks to the work they have done in your program for their immigration hearing.
Resources Shared During the Session:
Handbook for Incarcerated Individuals with Immigration Holds
Other Resources:
ICE Detainee Locator (Helpful to have the individual's "A" number)
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the session. We encourage you to explore these resources further and continue advocating for the well-being of your participants!
